Depending upon your medical insurance, you may be covered for most of the services we provide. We are not able to offer our services to those folks who have managed care coverage in which the laboratory services have already been "capitated". In this type of arrangement, a laboratory has already been paid to evaluate your tissue. They lose money with each additional minute they spend processing and looking at your slides. OUR Lab refuses, and will continue to refuse, capitated arrangements with insurers. We prefer to increase our revenue by practicing our chosen profession, not by NOT practicing it.
If you are covered by Medicare, please read, print, and take the Advanced Benficiary Notice (ABN) to your physician. Since Medicare patient cannot order tests for themselves, they should ask their physicians to order them (The doc should scribble an appropriate ICD-9 code and his own UPIN number on his prescription pad or letterhead).
Unlike other urologic specialty labs, OUR Lab is not a publicly traded corporation that must offer a return on the investment to its stockholders. We are a physician-run, physician-operated medical practice that needs only to pay its expenses and provide its employees appropriate compensation for their excellent work. This allows us to offer conscientious, professional service at a price lower than its competitors. It also affords us the opportunity to use our revenue to increase the range and usefulness of our information services, further empowering men and their families.
