Cancer 1997, 79: 1172-1179.
This study looked at the presence of prostatic intraepithelial
neoplasia (PIN) in 1,135 consecutive surgical
resections. High grade PIN was found more commonly in samples
from patients with small tumours. The
inter-observer agreement (chance-corrected
proportional-agreement) was 0.66 for PIN and 0.89 for carcinoma;
the latter may seem low. No association was found between
atypical adenomatous hyperplasia and prostate
cancer, but data from the follow-up of patients was not included
in the analysis.
